Critical Path Method(CPM) software project scheduling technique
Critical path method charts is similar to PERT charts and sometimes known as PERT/CPM.Critical path method acts as the basis both for preparation of a schedule and of resource planning.Duration management of a project it allows to monitor the achievements of project goals.In a CPM charts the critical path is indicated.Critical path is the path of longest duration as determined on a project network diagram.The critical path determines the total duration of the project,If a task on the critical path is delayed the final completion of the project will likely be delayed.
The critical path is "critical" because tasks that follows a critical task cannot be started untill all of the previous tasks on the critical path are completed.Thus if a task on the critical path is delayed all tasks following the delayed critical task will be pushed out in time.
The critical tasks will have starting and finishing times that are fixed relative to the start of the project.

Critical path analysis is a techniques used to plan out the most effective order that a series of processes are completed.

- Where parallel activity can be performed?
- The shortest time in which you can complete a project.
- Resources needed to execute a project.
- The sequence of activities,scheduling and timing involved.
- Task priorities.
- The most effective way to shortening time on urgent projects.
- It identifies the tasks that must be completed on time for the whole projevt to be completed on time.
- It also identifies which tasks can be delayed for to be while if resource needs to be reallocated to catch up on missed tasks.
- The relation of tasks to time is not as immediately obvious as with gantt charts.
- These are more difficult to understand.
- CPM helps to minimize cost while still achieving your achieving your objectives.
